Fighting Crime with Pizza

The east side of Indianapolis is one of the most dangerous places in America, with some of the nation’s highest rates for gun and gang violence. But one conscientious pizzeria owner is hoping that he can make a difference using the power of free pizza.

Donald Dancy has owned and operated D&C Pizza for over 30 years, and during that time he’s seen his neighborhood go from bad to worse. One day, he decided he couldn’t just stand by and do nothing, so he printed and handed out a special offer to all of his customers.

In exchange for bringing in any kind of handgun, Dancy will give you an extra-large pizza with whatever toppings you like, absolutely free, and no questions asked.

Dancy has firsthand experience of the damage that guns can do, having been robbed and shot in the past. He also served 7 years in prison so he understands the street, and the challenges facing inner-city youth, better than most.

Dancy still has to work out the details with his local police department but he’s committed to doing whatever he can to get guns off the street and make his city a little safer for the people who live there. If his actions can save even one life, he says, it will be more than worth it.
